Last November 2, 2022, Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte issued "The Promotion of Professionalism in the Implementation and Delivery of Basic Education Programs and Services" or the DepEd Order No. 49, series of 2022. As stated in the law, "avoid relationships, interaction, and communication, including following social media with learners outside of the school setting, except if they are relatives," caught the attention of many people and became a hot topic on social media platforms.
In my opinion, I am completely not in favor of the newly proclaimed law. One of the main objectives or goals of this order is to maintain boundaries between teachers and students. I am involved in this abrupt law, and this is too unfair to us students, especially those struggling with our studies. This order intends that they are trying to avoid favoritism or bias to students or even falling into chasmic teacher-student relationships, but this can still be avoided without the said law. We can't just deny the fact that the new DepEd Order has its motive, that you can still have a good bond with your teacher but with restrictions. Nevertheless, I am still not in favor of the newly proclaimed law.References:
